Scribbles, Beer & Soda

She
was walking by her usual route from work. Her shift was extended because of the late Friday night rush and she just finished covering for her friend. This
night in the cafe had been more than chaotic than the usual.
Aren't they supposed to tone down on their caffeine?! Yeah, well, they're gonna party like normal people do this day of the week. Unlike you. She was having that inner monologue as she was unzipping her hoodie, the one she wore before going out of the cafe thinking it will be a cold night.
She has never been a partygoer. As far as she can remember, she has always enjoyed staying at home or just chilling with a select few. There was that phase though right before high school graduation but it was just a phase.
As she was passing by the small park beside the river near her apartment, she noticed the 24/7 convenience store and she was tempted to buy a can of ice cold beer, to get at least the feel of the general Friday night partying, a wee bit of normalcy and somehow belongingness.
Thinking one can will not hurt and will probably lift her mood, off she went to the store. She will not be doing anything in particular when she gets home anyway. As she was waiting for her turn in line to pay, she saw the cup noodle display reminding her she has not had her dinner yet. She hastily left the line, eyes on that cup of instant ramen.
Hello, there hot ramen! She greeted the cup as she grabbed it. Her hungry stomach grumbled as if saying hello too to the cup.

He was on his way to work walking his usual route to the cafe. He glanced at his watch and was surprised he is actually 30 minutes early into his shift.
Ah, Friday. My shift starts 1 a.m. NOT 12 m.n. today! Now what?
He usually comes in on the dot, never early, never late. He was wondering what to do as he remembered there is a small park beside the river near his workplace.
Might as well go there.
He saw the nearby convenience store and decided to buy something to munch on before going to the park. He entered the store and went directly the beverage section. He surveyed the display of drinks and then decidedly grabbed his favorite bottled soda. He went to the snacks section and picked a random bag of potato chips. Falling in line and rummaging through the pocket of his backpack looking for some loose change, one more person to go and it will be his turn but the girl in front of him left the line suddenly when the storekeeper was about to punch in her items.
A can of beer, a girl. A pretty girl, Friday night, alone? His thoughts as he was placing his soda and chips on the table for the storekeeper to ring up.
There's something with her that's familiar. He smiled goofily though only seeing her profile, his eyes trailing the girl. And the beer.
"That would be KRW 1600."
The storekeeper told him curtly breaking his musing. He paid for it in the exact amount and grabbed the items off the counter after the storekeeper gave him the receipt.
Hmm, beer...but I got to work. Work. He was wondering whether to get one can as well but decided not to.
Before going out of the store, he could not help but glance back at the girl and cold beer now on top of a table. Bye beer, bye cute beer drinker, bidding farewell to the can and the beautiful stranger, taking off to the park.
Walking leisurely into the park, he took out his iPhone from his pocket and put on his headset and listened to random music. He found an empty bench by the river, put down his snacks on the table and his knapsack beside him.
This is nice. He wondered why there were not too many people here as this place is kind of quiet and romantic. Sheesh. It's Friday night, normal people are probably out partying. He thought with a quiet chuckle. Partying. He is sure done with that. He opened his soda savoring his favorite drink and started snacking on the chips.
Out of nothing to do and having time to idle by, he started looking around the park and saw a couple walking by the river holding each other's hand, a kid with a tired-looking woman, two teenagers laughing out loud rowdily chatting. Random people just living their Friday night as they probably usually do, nothing out of the ordinary.
As he was picking up his soda, he noticed the carvings, drawings on the table. He was staring at various doodles on the table when something caught his eye.
"I want to know you. Meet me here on Saturday 4pm. -B." The initial was signed as if with cute wings plus a date which was yesterday.
B? Okay. Now that person will be seeing a lot of creepy people tomorrow. Poor him. Or her. It's definitely a her. Poor her. Should I go back here tomorrow afternoon and make sure she'll be alright? What do I care? He was shaking his head with these ramblings in his head. He turned his head right then left, checking if anyone noticed him being weird looking intently on the table shaking his head.
His eyes scanned the other doodles on the table hoping to find something else. Ha! There's another one.
"Already saw you twice. I don't know if you'll remember me but you have two of my hankies. :) In case you read this, I hope I'll see you again.-T."
People should definitely stop messing around exchanging messages on the table. He smiled inwardly though. He was finding the notes intriguing and... cute? Love at first sight? He wondered but felt kind of weirded out by his own foolish thoughts.
He peeked at his watch and decided to start walking on his way to work.

She immediately spotted a bottle cap on her favorite spot. She picked it up and was pleasantly surprised it is her favorite pineapple guava soda. Guess I'm not the only one who likes this flavor.
She smiled and suddenly blurted out to no one in particular, "I'm not alone, world!" Bleh. Passers-by who were startled by her cute voice looked funnily at her.
Oblivious to the funny looks she was receiving, she settled down on the bench, put her backpack on the table as well as her beer. She’s glad the store has her favorite instant ramen. Her tummy is a happy tummy now that she is full and ready to relax while enjoying her ice cold beer.
This is a good place to be with my oppa chilling after work. Sheesh. Let me just finish this can and sleep then so I’ll get to dream of my oppa.
Where are you oppa? She wished and then chuckled at herself. Today is just the same as any other day, why feel this way all of a sudden?
She decided to listen to some music on her iPhone instead to shoo away lonely thoughts. Before putting on her earphones, she reached for her can ready to take a sip. As she was reaching for her beer, she saw something written on the table.
"I already saw you twice. I don't know if you'll remember me. You have two of my hankies. :) In case you read this, I hope I'll see you again.-T."
Ohhh!!! Love note!!! She felt giddy rereading the note. Her iPhone forgotten, she searched for another message, anything that might have been a reply to that note. After few seconds of inspecting the tabletop, she saw nothing, just random scribbles and doodles here and there. Disappointed, she finished off her beer in one go and picked up her bag. She was about to stand up when she noticed something written on where her bag had been.
"I want to know you. Meet me here on Saturday 4pm. -B." Another note with tomorrow's date.
Uwaaaah!!! She replied!!! She just assumed B is a girl because... well just because. Well, B might be another guy, but she dismissed the thought. But no guy will put little wings on his initial, right? Still, it may be a guy. But yeee! Despite the loneliness she felt earlier, she felt happy and somewhat inspired.
She started walking back to her apartment thinking pensively about how destiny works. The scribbles made by two strangers left a flutter in her heart. She had wanted to be there, curious about a supposedly serendipitous meeting of two hearts. She unlocked her apartment door and headed straight to her bedroom contemplating on whether or not to go to the park the next day in the hopes of witnessing how another love story unfolds.
